On the Hunt for: Button-ups

To me, button-up shirts are the essence of relaxed chic. Whether they have a safari or a 'I stole this from my boyfriend' vibe, they look low-maintenance and polished, and can work with almost any outfit. I want to wear one this spring with some cute city shorts, boyfriend jeans, or tucked into a high-waisted skirt. The only problem with button-ups is that it's really hard to find good ones. They're either too big and boxy or too fitted, too long or too short. That said, I really want one, so I'm willing to spend hours trolling the internet until I find the right one. Here's what I've come up with so far:

Solid Three-Quarter Sleeve Stretch Shirt, $49.50 at jcrew.com, J. Crew Tissue Roll-up Camp Shirt, $59.50 at jcrew.com. The one on the left probably looks the most corporate, but it's really well proportioned: just fitted enough without being tight. I really love the tissue shirt on the right. It just looks so easy and comfy, but not at all sloppy. And it's a little sheer, which makes up for the slightly baggy shape.

Frank & Eileen Barry Banker Stripe Button-down Shirt, $158 at ronherman.com, Elizabeth & James Cohan Shirt, $225 at revolveclothing.com. The pinstriped shirt is so freaking cute, it's the perfect combination of a more traditional print with a rumpled fabric and boyfriend fit. The white shirt on the left is perfect is you want shorter sleeves to show off your arms, and I like how the hem curves up on the sides--it has a tuxedo shirt vibe.

James Perse Classic Contrast Panel Button Front in Vintage, $144 at revolveclothing.com, Pencey Man's Shirt in White, $271 at revolveclothing.com. The James Perse shirt is a more fitted version the J. Crew one above, and just looks so crisp and chic. The Pencey shirt on the right probably has the most interesting detailing out of all of the shirts. It's hard to see, but it has ruched ties on both sides that give just a little visual interest. It could look a little dowdy with the oversized fit, but the sheer fabric and elbow length sleeves keep it cute.
