Versatile Dressing

Given the economy and the fact that I'm a perpetually broke teenager, I like to shop for clothes that are extremely versatile, clothes that will get me from day to night and work for a bunch of different occasions. The one item of clothing that seems to do that the best is a dress, because it's a complete outfit in one piece. I rounded up two versatile, day to night dress options below, so take a looksie.

EDUN Tuareg dress, $325 at shopbop.com, VPL Breaker dress, $275 at shopbop.com

Tank dresses like this EDUN dresses are great because they skim the body, but are comfortable and not too form-fitting, which means you have a shape, but you're still leaving something to the imagination. Since this dress is silk, it would work well for day but also be easy to dress up and go out in. And how cute is the print? It's kind of a futuristic, pixelated take on ikat, but subtle enough not to be trendy. So while $325 seems like a lot of money, this is a good investment piece because it's truly a work horse that you'll reach for as much tomorrow as you will in three years. This Breakers dress from VPL is equally fantastic. The bodice picks up on the underwear trend from the Spring and Fall runways this year (and just like a bra, the straps are adjustable), and the flash of neon pink at the bust is just as on-trend. That said, VPL has been making this dress for 2-3 years, and I've loved it the entire time. The simple, fitted top and a-line skirt shape makes this dress both a classic and figure flattering. This dress may be the more versatile of the two. Add some cute flat sandals and a motorcyle jacket or cardigan, and you've got a perfect shopping/daytime outfit. Throw on some platform heels and grab a cute clutch, and you can hit up any party in this dress. Given how often you'll wear these dresses, they'll practically pay for themselves.
