American Apparel Tri-Blend Short Sleeve Deep-V, $22 at americanapparelstore.com, Vince Long Cashmere Cardigan, $325 at shopbop.com, American Apparel Tie Dye Circular Scarf, $34 at americanapparelstore.com: I assumed most people have a grey v-neck. If you don't, go buy this one. The long cardigan doesn't have to be cashmere (although that's always a plus), any thin knit, slouchy, mid-thigh length cardi will do. Ok, most people probably don't have this scarf, but circular scarves will be be in the fall (see last post) and tie dye is big now, so this is a really fun, cheap way to inject an of-the-moment trend into your wardrobe! I would have put up a faux fur scarf, but I couldn't find one :(
Current/Elliot Cropped Zip Jeans, $219 at singer22.com, Urban Outfitters Ecote Skinny Leather Belt, $12.99 at urbanoutfitters.com (on sale), Candela Suede Jazz Studded Sandals, $242 at shopbop.com : Any straight leg/skinny pants or jeans, cropped just above the ankle, will work here. You want a slim silhouette on the bottom to balance out the cardigan. A thin leather belt pulls the look together, and this one has cute, unique detailing. Any flat, gladiator or thick, strappy sandals work here to ground the look. I'm kind of obsessed with these studded ones though.
The basic concept here is to combine a more voluminous, belted long cardigan, with a v-neck layered underneath, with slim, cropped pants, a circular scarf, and strong sandals. The slim pants/cardigan combo is the best kind of comfortable chic, the belt reminds the world that you a waist, the scarf keeps it all on trend, and the sandals keep the top half of the look from overwhelming the bottom half. Now go forth and look chic.
