Inspired by Gossip Girl

Alright, so Maud's going to hate me for this, but I have to post about this adorable dress from Gossip Girl last night. It's a gold, sequin/paillette racerback tank dress, and I think I'm in love with it. This style really works because the silhouette itself is really low-key and easy-going, but the sequins are a dressy material that make the dress itself very nighttime appropriate. It's super-flattering, it's extremely versatile (style it down for daytime a la DVF Fall '09, wear it as is for cocktails, clubbing, prom, etc.), and it's 100% on trend. I might be a little biased because my prom dress is basically this in black, but I think this might be a new wardrobe staple.

Haute Hippie Sequin Tank Dress, down from $645 to $322 at tobi.com, Haute Hippie Sequin Tunic Mini Dress, down from $625 to $313 at revolveclothing.com, Haute Hippie Studded Dress, $594 at revolveclothing.com: So this first dress is the actual dress from Gossip Girl, and it's a steal right now. Haute Hippie's dresses are really well-made and pretty seasonless, making them a great investment. If you're more of a silver girl, try that middle dress (also on sale!). As an added bonus, vertical stripes make you look longer and leaner, and who doesn't want that? I know that last dress doesn't fit in, but it's so darn cute I couldn't help but include it. I can't get over the combination of the t-shirt shape with the silk and circular studs--it's the perfect blend of casual and formal, so it works for pretty much anything.

Yumi Kim Black Sequin Dress, down from $310 to $155 at singer22.com, Whitney Eve Sequin Dress, $450 at singer22.com, What Goes Around Comes Around Sequin Pataya Dress, down from $335 to $79 at singer22.com: There are lots of these dresses on sale right now! Which totally justifies a purchase (I am so your bank account's worst enemy). This Yumi Kim dress mixes it up with a satin band at the hem, which makes it look a bit dressier. Yes, that Whitney Eve dress is by Whitney from the Hills/the City, but it's still cute. It has a deep v in the back, which balances the boat-neck nicely, and I like the twist of the grey/black wavy pattern. It's subtle, but adds a lot of visual interest. Last of all, that What Goes Around Comes Around actually comes in indigo, a medium grey/blue, and it's also a serious steal. That's a lot of dress from under $80. I like the on-trend color and the slight a-line to the skirt--it has great movement.

I totally forgot, but this style is also a bit '80s, with all the sequins. So, just to recap: it's '80s and sequined, both on-trend, very flattering with way it skims over, but doesn't hug your curves, and you can get a ton of wear out of it. It's kind of a no-brainer, huh?
