Lush!, and Evil Mousse

I went to LUSH today!  It was a spur of the moment thing and I didn't actually get that much, but of course now I'm completely obsessed.  But more on that later.

L'Oreal Glossy Volume Mousse, $4.99 at drugstore.com, Dove Body & Lift Volumizing Mousse, $11.97 for 3 at amazon.com: So two or three days ago I ran out of my usual Dove mousse, and when I stopped by the grocery store on the way home, they were out, so I grabbed this L'Oreal mousse that I remembered hearing a good review of somewhere.  I usually stick with my Dove mousse, but when I can't find it I just get something else, usually Tresemme, and it's fine.  Well.  This mousse smells good.  That's about it.  The consistency is both very watery and very airy.  It feels a little runny, and instead of coming out smoothly, it comes out full of giant air holes and feels like it's going to collapse at any second.  Because of the texture, I put more mousse in my hair than usual.  I just didn't feel like it was going to do anything.  But I forgot about it and went to sleep, and when I woke up the next morning...OMG.  The volume situation was less than average, but the real kicker was that my hair felt greasy, matted, and like it had a month's worth of product build-up.  It looked dull and dirty.  My biggest hair quirk is that I play with my hair all the time, so it needs to feel soft and clean.  Fail.  Epic, epic fail.  I don't like to write entirely negative reviews because I feel like sometimes products that don't work for me will work for other people, but I can't see this working for anyone.  I would never, ever repurchase.  It's headed straight for the recycling.  I highly recommend this Dove mousse.  It has the consistency of thick whipped cream, leaves absolutely no residue, and gives lovely volume and softness.

LUSH Honey I Washed the Kids soap: After I hit up the Victoria's Secret semi-annual sale today (I like to stock up on Pink sweats yearly for school), I wandered over to LUSH.  To me, LUSH is a little like MAC (or at least how MAC felt initially).  It's full of a ton of products that I don't really understand the use of initially.  But, the sales girl was so helpful and friendly that I instantly felt comfortable.  I didn't want to go overboard the first time I shopped there, so I just got about $6 worth of the Honey I Washed the Kids soap.  Now, on the website you get 3.5 oz for $6.95, and when I watched blogger videos about LUSH everyone had these giants chunks of soap, so I assumed that was how much you get for $6.95.  Nope.  The bit I have is about 3/4 of an inch thick and the size of my palm.  But, it smells SO amazing (SO AMAZING), has a lovely layer of honeycomb, and this very interesting, almost spongy consistency that seems really moisturizing and like it will lather up nicely, so I'm a happy camper.  I'm assuming that it'll be fantastic when I use it in the shower later, but if it isn't I'll update and let y'all know.

Now that I've got my feet wet with LUSH, I have a few more things bookmarked for my next LUSH trip.  When I got my soap today, I also got this newspaper-esque catalog of all their products (so cute), and just spent half an hour going through it.

LUSH: Karma Komba Solid Shampoo, $9.95 at lushusa.com, Jungle Conditioner, $10.95 at lushusa.com: Their solid shampoos and conditioners have such fab reviews and apparently last a really long time, so they'd end up being cheaper and more eco-friendly than bottled shampoos/conditioners.  Win-win.  The Karma Komba shampoo has patchouli, lemon, and orange, and is supposed to give you great shine and a fab smell all day.  The Jungle conditioner has avocado, bananas, and cocoa butter, and gives intense moisture without residue, which is pretty much the best thing ever.  Shiny hair that smells like a rainforest?  Sign me up.  Plus, these would be so much easier to travel with than bottled shampoos/conditioners!  Oooh...

LUSH: Chai Shower Gel, $17.95 at lushusa.com, Porridge Soap, $6.95 at lushusa.com: Um, they make Chai shower gel.  Legit chai, with tea, ginger, cinnamon, lemon, and allspice, and all of that in LUSH's moisturizing and eco-friendly formula.  There's nothing else I can say.  I want it.  As for this porridge soap, it has oats, orange juice, and orange oil, for moisture and exfoliation.  This would be the perfect thing to use pre-shave or pre-tanning.  Do you guys have any LUSH recommendations?  Let me know!

Shoes of Prey Heels, both $280 at shoesofprey.com: This is totally unrelated, but I just saw it in a YouTube video, and I'm a little obsessed.  It's this site where you can custom make shoes, design, colors, fabrics, and sizes, and all that for just over $300 with shipping. These aren't the must representative pics, but they have literally every style and fabric imaginable, and the finished products look insanely gorgeous.  For people like me, who are crazy picky about their shoes, this is a miracle.

  1. Yay first Lush trip! I had my first trip about a week ago, and I'm obsessed. Actually just did a blog post about what I got!

I'm already itching to go back but I can't justify buying even more right now, lol.

  2. That's such a random coincidence! I spent like an hour last night planning all the other stuff I want, it's a problem.

Oooh, you got the lip scrub! I actually seriously debated getting that, especially the mint julep flavor. Is it worth it? And you got the Ocean Salt scrub! Now I'm jealous. I wanted that, I just ran out of money lol.

  3. The lip scrub is nice, but not necessary! You can basically make something similar with olive oil and sugar. But if you have the money to burn, it's fun. :) Ocean Salt... now THAT is something I'm going to tell everyone that they need!
