I Bought Foundation, and I Liked It.

Yes, that was a Katy Perry reference because yes, I am that cheesy. Want to know why? Because I'm in love! With a foundation, don't get that excited.

MAC Face and Body Foundation, $32 at maccosmetics.com, MAC Prep & Prime Skin Refined Zone, $19.50 at maccosmetics.com: So my MAC Face and Body Foundation came today, and even though it's poring outside, I AM SO HAPPY. First off, the body is about twice as big as my bottles of Kiehls tinted moisturizer, so it's much cheaper per ounce and wayyyy cheaper than a Sephora foundation per ounce. The squeeze bottle is really convenient and easy to use. Here's what MAC has to say about the foundation: "A water-based, water-resistant foundation that provides long-lasting, natural coverage for face and/or body. Ideal for all skin types. Face and Body Foundation provides sheer, natural looking coverage in an easy to blend, water-resistant formula. The long-lasting formula is available in a wide range of colours and contains several emollients to help moisturize and condition the skin. It delivers professional looking results that meet the exacting standards of beauty photography and is ideal for perfecting the face and body." I love that it's water-based. I've stayed away from foundations for so long because I felt like they were chock-full of oils that would just completely break me out. This foundation feels like a tinted moisturizer--light and a little thin, and not at all oily or gross. I haven't really worn it yet, because I picked up my package at about 4, but my tinted moisturizer had faded so I layered a bit of this on top, and...it's amazing. The coverage is perfect, the finish is fresh and dewy, and it's easy to build and layer. I'm NW20, and N1 was a really good match for me. I think this would be a great foundation if your like me, and have dry skin with the occasional breakout and a little redness/acne scarring. It's by no means a heavy duty foundation that's going to hide each and every flaw, but if you have decent skin and a good concealer, it's golden. Next I want to try MAC's Prep + Prime Refined Skin Primer. I hear that it mattifies the T-zone really well and literally makes your pores shrink in front of your eyes. I'm all for magical makeup products.

Garance Dore pics: Totally random, but here are some great Garance Dore pics that I just had to post. Loving her saucy take on the military trend.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Foaming Moisturizer in Fair to Medium, $8.49 at drugstore.com, St. Ives Exfoliating Body Polish with Collagen and Elastin, $8.29 at drugstore.com: I also picked up this foaming self-tanner today, and it's another winner in my book. The texture is amazing. It's really just like a thick mousse, which makes it SO much easier to apply than a runny lotion, and it's so much easier to rub in as well. Your legs do stay a little sticky right after application, but that dies away quickly. The self-tanner smell is really minimal, the bottle is very easy to use, and since it's Jergens, I think the color is easy to build and very natural-looking. I'll let you guys know how this turns out in a few days. Oh, and always remember to exfoliate before you self-tan! It'll make your tan go on more evenly and ensure that it lasts longer. I chose this scrub because it's a sugar scrub, so it won't irritate your skin, and it doesn't make the bottom of your shower resemble an oil spill. Falling over in the shower is NOT fun.

Tarte Natural Lip Stain, $24 at sephora.com, Aussie Moist Conditioner, $3.19 at ulta.com: I just saw someone use one of these Tarte Lip Stains in a YouTube tutorial, and OMG, I want one. The crayon packaging is super functional because the product twists up from the bottom (you never have to sharpen it!). It comes in a nice range of shades--I'm eying Enchanted, a rosy pink, and apparently they're really moisturizing, unlike most lip stains. The last thing I picked up today was a GIANT bottle of this Aussie conditioner (I believe it's almost 34 ounces?) for less than $9. That's a serious, serious steal. The bottle has a pump top, which is so much easier to use in the shower, and so much harder for me to accidentally break off. Like most Aussie conditioners, it's intensely hydrating and smells exactly like a gigantic, tropical coconut. Coconut body lotion can be a little overwhelming, but coconut conditioner is perfect. Every once in a while, you just get this lovely whiff of sunshiney creaminess that's an instant mood booster.

Febreeze Apple Spice & Delight, $9.99 for 3 at amazon.com: After days and days of sunshine, the sky decided to legitimately rain cats and dogs again, which is just depressing. So to make myself feel better, I bought a giant bottle of Apple Spice Febreeze and sprayed my entire room with it. It smells like Christmas! It's juicy and apple-y, with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon, and I'm pretty sure my roommate and I are high on fumes.

  1. The colours on that foundation look so good - not too pink, not too orange, not too yellow (which I find with other MAC foundations - I just can't find the right shade). But - it sounds like it's probably a little sheer for me..perhaps worth checking out in case though after this rave!
