Stella McCartney, Elie Saab, Lanvin: The sheer lace panels on this Stella McCartney dress are so pretty, and it moves so well. I just want to swish into a room wearing this. And I'd love to glide down the red carpet in this Elie Saab dress. The combination of the sweetheart neckline with the drapey one-shouler is genius. I'm dying over the knit/fur scarf at Lanvin. It's multi-purpose amazingness.
Jasmine Di Milo, Nina Ricci, Balmain: This Jasmine Di Milo dress is just the right amount of romantic goth, and I love the dramatic hemline. And this Nina Ricci dress is one of the reasons I'm so pissed Olivier Theyskens was fired--just look at that band of ombre turquoise sequins. Genius. Of course I had to through some Balmain in here. I know everyone's crazy over their military and sharp shouldered jackets, but I love their skirts! That studded mini would dress up any drapey tee.
Versace, DSquared, Pucci: The pailletes on that Versace dress are insanely gorgeous. I've already raved over the styling at DSquared, but this dress/bomber combo is my favorite. The zig-zag print on this Pucci mini is so fresh, and I love the way it mimics the neckline.
Bottega Veneta, Proenza Schouler, Burberry: I'm still in love with this Bottega Veneta slip dress--so Roaring '20s glamorous. Proenza Schouler does boxy trousers to perfection, and this cropped pea-coat is the perfect mix of masculine and sexy, just like the styling of the chunky scarf and airy sundress at Burberry. The royalty print reminds looks like last season's Miu Miu, no? Miuccia really is a visionary.
Missoni, Emporio Armani, House of Holland: I can't get over the hippie sweater chic at Missoni. It's comfy, feminine, and powerful all at the same time. The ruffles on this Armani coat are so impulsively girly, but classic at the same time. I love the juxtaposition of them with the military-esque pins at the shoulder. Last but not least, the graduated color-blocking at House of Holland. I'm obsessed with the way it's a little uneven, the monochromatic pallette, and the way that the dress is a complete outfit all on it's own. That's a statement worth making.

Sometimes when I look through a show there are certain looks that stick with me. Not always the most fashion forward or on-trend looks, but looks that flash through my head whenever I go shopping or when I'm in the middle of a boring class (which happens a lot). Anyways, I thought I'd share some of those looks with you guys just for fun.
Brian Reyes, Naaem Khan, Proenza Schouler: The print on this Brian Reyes dress is fantastic, and I love the ruching at the waist. This Naeem Khan gown is one of the best examples of one-shouldered I've seen, and the '90s velvet burnout grunge at Proenza Schouler feels so fresh--even though it was around 10 years ago.
Marchesa, Rodarte, Marc by Marc Jacobs: Orchid flowers at Marchesa? Yes, please. I loved this Rodarte dress on Reese Witherspoon, and I still love it here. The styling of this look at Marc by Marc is fantastic--I love the giant scarf and dramatic belt.
Matthew Williamson, Erin Fetherston, Alexander Wang: I've already gushed over this Matthew Williamson outfit (especially the scarf). How adorable is that Erin Fetherston dress? And I'd sell my kidney for that Alexander Wang dress (it's purple!).
Reem Acra, Diane von Fursternberg, Lela Rose: That Reem Acra dress just screams GODDESS to me. I love the styling of that sequin tank dress with scrunchy leggings/pants and an oversized cardigan at DVF, and the print on this Lela Rose dress is amazing and quirky at the same time.
Elise Overland, Jason Wu, Monique Lhuillier: The slouchy purple blazer and slouchy pants at Elise Overland are gorgeous. This is how boyfriend blazers and pants should look. I'm still seriously crushing on this polka dot dress from Jason Wu. I want it. I will do unspeakable things for it. The same for this cut-out Monique Lhuillier gown--it's the perfect mix of sexy and classic.
Most of these looks didn't even make it into my roundups, but you know how sometimes you get really attached to looks for unexplainable reasons? Well, that happens to me a lot. As in, look for another post just like this one because I'm no where near done gushing.

I have college on the brain (to be fair, I think every high school senior does). Of course, I'm not as focused on college itself as much as what I'll be wearing at college. You heard me. The wardrobe comes first. Anyways, all of this college stuff got me thinking about what we call 'collegiate chic.' It's that look that's a combination of Ralph Lauren preppy, retro, globally inspired, and a teensy bit of trendy/hipster. Since it's me, I had to put together an outfit for this look, so here's my take on collegiate chic.

I think the fleece motorcycle jacket is the perfect 'collegiate chic' jacket because it's got a bit of an edge, but it's super practical and it's super comfortable. It's like an amazingly chic sweatshirt. The button-up shirt is like the epitome of college girl style--very preppy and classic, but a little cheeky in that it's also a riff on a boyfriend shirt. I added the jeans because they're definitely a college staple, but a good pair of jeans can take you anywhere and work with almost any outfit. They're simultaneously casual and pulled-together.

I'd style this outfit with these Frye boots because they add the hipster element, but they're also a little retro (very 70's college girl, no?) and very practical for sloshing around in nasty weather. The scarf gives it a bit of a boho/world-traveller vibe, which is important because colleges can be international crossroads, and I think the quissential college girl is inspired by other cultures. I love this giant bag because it's a little slouchy and casual, but it's gigantic enough to hold textbooks, clothes, food, and whatever else you could need.
It's pulled together and very classic, but a little quirky at the same time. Hm. Now I want this outfit.

I need a pair of shoes. Not a cute ballet flat or adorable sandal type of shoe, but a basic, sturdy shoe that works with everything--dresses, jeans, skirts, shorts, girly, more androgynous, etc, etc. I'm thinking I want a slip-on shoe like one of these. I know it's not the chicest thing ever and it's a little on the hipster side, but I need something more substantial than a flat and not as 'sporty' as a tennis shoe, and this is the only thing I can come up with.

I have these Keds on the left, and here's my issue. They're a little on the cheaply made side, so even though I've had them for 3 years, I still get crazy blisters from them (I have some right now, in fact. Not cool). They're not comfy, and they're not that cute. I want an upgrade. I love these top-siders because they're got a bit of a nautical edge to them (they're not too nautical though), and they just look a little more finished. The anchor print is adorable, but I'm definitely leaning towards the grey-on-grey version. I can picture these working with so many outfits! Love.

Yes, they're cliche, but I figure everyone has them for a reason, right? They're kind of the equivalent of a basic white v-neck for your feet, they last forever, and they come in fun colors, like this bright blue. The TOMS I'm less likely to get because they just aren't as sturdy, but the stripes are so cute and I love the non for profit business model (one pair of shoes gets donated to a third world country for each pair you buy).
Since I'm going to college eventually, I figure I need a pair of sturdy, semi-practical shoes that won't give my feet frostbite (since I'll probably be in Boston. AKA Antartica). But I'm not willing to sacrifice style for function. Fashion is pain. Except it kind of is. Anyways, I'll update you guys if I ever get around to shoe-shopping--it's a lazy week.

You guys know I'm kind of obsessed with runway show styling. For me it's the easiest way to tap into the look and vibe of a show without actually spending a lot of money, which is always a plus. Going off of my love for the Dsquared Fall 2009 show, I threw together a couple of tips to style the look for a little less.
I think it breaks down into: big scarf and big sunglasses with a belted cardigan or little leather jacket layered over basics like a mini dress or jean shorts and a tee. Very simple, and kind of trashy Hollywood glamor in the best possible way (classic Dsquared).

I like this tank dress because it's super-duper basic, pretty affordable, and not too short. It's essentially to most basic of basics, which keeps the whole look from going over the top. Add this Mike & Chris leather jacket on top for instant edge, easy glamor, and some extra warmth (I tried to find a cheaper leather bomber-esque jacket, but I'm stumped. A motorcyle jacket will do just as well here). The giant, anti-paparazzi lenses and oversized scarf are not only practical (making you impervious to flashing lens--or the sun--and chilly breezes), but completely elevate the outfit.
But you really don't need to buy much for this look. Layer some sort of bomber or motorcyle jacket over a tee/tank dress, throw on a big scarf and some giant sunnies, and you've got that instant Hollywood starlet look with all of the glam and none of the drama.

Everyone's over the J. Crew pants already, I get it, I would be too. But (humor me!) I actually ended up buying a pair today and I wanted to share it with you guys!
I actually didn't think I'd end up buying these--I just tried them on for fun! Mine are a teensy bit more fitter than the model's, but still wide-leg (I'll probably abandon the tie-belt though). I get a definite 70's, almost Chloe-esque vibe from these. They are much cuter in person. I really like that they're noticeably denim, but not too washed out, and super, super comfy. Plus the pockets are super booty-flattering.
I'm planning on wearing these with a fitted tee and my Ray-Ban Wayfarers, to capitalize on the 70's vibe potential here. I'd post pictures, but my brother seems to have run off with my camera. Pictures soon!

I'm sure you've heard about Living Proof. It's kind of been...well, everywhere over the last few months. But, on the off chance that you haven't, here's the scoop. Living Proof was designed by some crazy brilliant peeps from MIT (so you know they're smart), and uses a new type of molecule to tame frizz and fly-aways instead of resorting to the traditional silicone. Which means it won't weigh down your hair or make it greasy at all! It comes in two different categories, for curls/waves or straight hair, and within those categories there are products for Fine to Medium Hair, Medium to Thick Hair, and Thick to Coarse Hair. I really like that you can tailor the product to suit your look at hair type--very smart. And just to convince you further, I never buy frizz/fly-away products because I don't have many, but I'm thinking of investing in this stuff. That's a big deal. It's like 5 Starbucks lattes. Talk about commitment.
