Loving the Look: Keira Knightley

Keira Knightley basically always looks awesome, but I feel like she looks especially awesome here at the Chanel show.  The combination of the girly, pastoral dress and the boyish blazer is totally fab, but can we just talk about the hair?  That streamlined bob is so darn chic!

Lusting After: Celine Luggage bags

I try not to fall in love with trendy bags.  You start to adore something ridiculously expensive, and by the time you have enough money saved up to actually get it, it's not in style anymore.

I think this Celine Luggage bag is a nice exception.  It's popular at the moment, sure, but it's not trendy.  It's very simple, classic, and practical bag (thank you, Phoebe Philo), that works for various styles and outfits.  It's not wallet friendly at around $2,000, but comes in an array of colors and finishes.  My favorite is the little black one on top, but the leopard print is very fab, and the cobalt blue is just drop dead chic.

Isn't it fab?  It's big enough to carry everything, but not bulky, and it's a little downtown meets Birkin bag.  Sigh.

Eclipse, Burberry, and Emma Watson

Nikki Reed in Marchesa, Bryce Dallas Howard in vintage Dior: So here are the red carpet pics from the recent premiere of Eclipse (comes out next week, wootwoot).  Twilight premieres always bring out interesting red carpet choices.  Nikki Reed may look a little like an Ice Capades dancer, but she also looks kind of fab, no?  She's pulling it off nicely, and I think it could be really easy to let that many sequins and feathers become cheesy.  Bryce Dallas Howard has my absolute favorite look of the evening (love how they're putting her in the movie and pretending that no one will notice that she's not the OTHER red headed evil vampire).  Vintage Dior?  Come on.  Yellow can be tricky with red hair, but she is absolutely glowing!  That dress fits her, it looks unique and vintage, but not dated, and she's accessorized it perfectly.

Kristen Stewart in Elie Saab, Ashley Green in Alexis Mabille: I don't like to use the word hate.  But I hate this dress on Kristen Stewart.  It looks like a hairy, oversized sweater that the cat tore a sleeve off of.  It doesn't flatter her, it doesn't seem modern or young, and it definitely doesn't seem appropriate for a premiere.  As for Ashley Green, oy ve.  We all know she has a great body.  I'm sure she knows she has a great body.  So I'm confused as to why she's wearing a towel.  Or a big grey bed sheet.  Either way, it's not a dress.

Emma Watson: It's hard not to hate Emma Watson for being so darn gorgeous all the time, but girl can't help it.  I simply love the idea of pairing that Louis Vuitton corset top with a pair of jean cutoffs.  It makes it very daytime appropriate, but still sexy and edgy, a little baroque meets Daisy Duke.  The model boyfriend also doesn't hurt.

Burberry Fall 2010 Campaign: Speaking of Emma Watson, it seems like she's taking a little break from Burberry.  But that ad is still GORGEOUS.  I love the casting, and what I really, really love are those shearling jackets.  Omnomnom.  I want, especially that middle one.  It has all the edge of a motorcycle jacket, with all the practicality of a shearling jacket.  And that dramatic collar...le sigh.

Tilo Ombre Scarf, $85 at shopbop.com, Jill Stuart Mona Dress, $348 at shopbop.com, Rebecca Taylor Strapless Dress, $326 at shopbop.com: I know what you're thinking.  $85 for a pink scarf?  Heck no.  But there is a method to the madness, I promise.  That scarf is a thin wool, AKA the best scarf material ever.  It looks light and summery, but it will keep you as warm as the temperature demands, and it'll do that without heaviness or extra volume.  This Jill Stuart is all sweet and girly from the front (aside from the deep, DEEP cleavage), but in the back it's very much va-va-voom sexy.  It's a very flattering hue and shape, it balances feminine and sexy, and you could really wear it all year round.  I know this Rebecca Taylor dress is a crazy, crazy print...but I kind of love it.  It's a little hippie on acid trip, but with a thick, brown leather belt and a cute cardigan, you could tone it down just enough to make it wearable.

My New Fav Iron Guard + Lush Cravings

I've officially spent my fifth day in a row baking.  Today it was an amazing coffee cake, and if someone doesn't hire me soon, I'm going to spend the entire summer making me and the rest of my family extremely fat.  Happy, but fat.

The Sartorialist pic, Heather Morris from Glee: I absolutely love the combination of patterns going on in this Sartorialist pic.  The floral leggings against the bold stripes of the shirt--it's the perfect way to mix prints, choosing one bold and one softer print in a similar color palette.  On a totally unrelated note, how cute is this cat eye liner on Heather Morris from Glee?  I love how she kept the inner corners bare and then winged out her liner so far on the outer edges.  You get all the drama but the eye isn't as hard and closed off.

Roberto Cavalli Serpent Ring, $265 at net-a-porter.com, Juicy Couture Pointelle Cotton-blend Night Dress, $85 at net-a-porter.com: I have a freakish phobia of snakes in real life, but for some reason I find snakes incorporated into jewelry really intriguing.  This is yet another example of creepy animals made into really cute accessories.  The snake gives the ring a sensuous, undulating shape, the scales add a really interesting texture, and the high sheen of the eyes give it that extra bit of visual interest.  Now, I know this sounds random, but I have a weird personal obsession with cute nighties.  I sort of collect them.  I just really like feeling cute while I'm sleeping, and I've watched enough Gilmore Girls/Gossip Girl episodes to know that at some point in your life a whole bunch of people will run into your room while you're sleeping and you'd better look cute when that time comes (not sure that made sense, but go with me here).  The black and white lacy trim on this nightie give it a hint of French maid, but the pale pink and flouncy detailing take it from tacky to elegant and just slightly cheeky.  I could totally lounge around the house in this and an oversized cardigan all day.

Got 2b Guardian Angel 425 F Hear Protect 'n Flatten Flat Iron Balm + Gloss Finish, $5.99 at drugstore.com: I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet, since I've almost used up the entire bottle.  I got it on a two for one sale at CVS, and picked it up because I've never really fallen in long with any of my previous iron guards, so I keep picking up new ones.  This might be the first one that I repurchase.  The bottle looks kind of dumb and tacky, but it smells AMAZING.  This spray plus my coconut conditioner makes my hair smell like cookies.  In a good way, not a weird way.  On top of that, it makes my hair really soft, completely protects it from burning or drying out, and keeps my hair straight and shiny.  I'm absolutely in love with it.

All Lush: Sultana of Soap, $5.95 at lushusa.com, Big Shampoo, $22.95 at lushusa.com, Soft Couer (The Honeymooner) Massage Bar, $8.95 at lushusa.com: For some sick reason, I keep watching Lush haul videos on YouTube.  I've never actually gotten anything from Lush because every time I went in the store I would get overwhelmed by the smell and confused by all the products and I'd leave empty-handed.  But now I have a mission.  I want these three things: the Sultana of Soap, the Big Shampoo, and the Honeymooner massage bar.  The Sultana of Soap is a rich, creamy soap with bits of dried fruit thrown in for exfoliation (and supposedly it smells amazing).  The Big Shampoo is supposed to give body to fine hair (and while I don't have fine hair, I need me some body), and is full of sea salt and citrus juices.  The citrus adds shine and the salt adds texture and volume, just like ocean water does.  I'm intrigued by the idea of massage bars because they sound like the perfect alternative to lotions that can leak and get all over everything.  You just rub the bar between your hands and then use that to moisturize your body.  The Honeymooner has cocoa and honey, which sounds like the most lovely combination of scents ever.

Girls of Summer

Less than five days left of school.  FIVE DAYS, one final, and one paper.  I'm going a little stir crazy, if you couldn't tell.  So I'm just compiling lists of pretty things that I want that remind me of summer to get me through the next five days.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Liner in 23L, $17 at sephora.com, Urban Decay De-Slick In A Tube Mattifying Gel, $28 at sephora.com: I've been a die hard Urban Decay 24-7 Liner fan, but I recently saw a blog post where a girl swatched these two liners on her hand and left it all day, and the Aqua Eyes won by far.  For summer, I'm really feeling this 23L liner (it's the champagne shadow on the bottom right) as an inner tear-duct highlight or for the waterline.  It's a much warmer, more flattering way to light up the eye than a flesh-toned pencil, and you guys know I can't resist anything with sparkles.  So one of the things that I've noticed about when the weather heats up (I've totally forgotten about this because it's been so darn cold here) is that I get super oily, and no amount of mattifying powder will cure it.  In a desperate attempt to look less like a shiny bowling ball, I'm seriously considering shelling out for this Urban Decay mattifying gel.  I just read a glowing review of it on Pink Sith (love her), and there's nothing in it that seems like it would break me out.  It seems like it really does put the oilies in their place, and then some.  So if I'm feeling particularly wealthy next time I'm in Sephora, I'll pick this up and review it.

MAC Superglass in Gift Wrap, $18 at maccosmetics.com, Revolution in Cut Prime My Cut Long Layers Pre-Styling Lotion, $24 at cvs.com, Ayako Addiction Eye Shadow in Crow, available at ichibankao.com: I've finally decided which Superglass I want: Gift Wrap.  I've been craving an orangey-coral gloss for a while now, and this one is the perfect color AND has giant sparkles in it.  I mean, come on.  I'm getting really intrigued by these hair products that are specific to certain hair cuts.  It makes a lot of sense that different cuts need different products, and since I'm trying to grow my hair into long layers, I've been eying this lotion.  It claims to add volume at the roots and texture to layers, and that pump bottle is pretty decently sized for $24.  So you can only buy this eyeshadow in Japan/on Japanese websites, but...I wants it.  It's a brown-black with an intense blue frost/duochrome, and basically looks like sexy, smokey hotness.  It sort of reminds me of MAC's Club, which is a brown with a green duochrome, and equally gorgeous.

Parisian Chic, Alkemie Jewelry Giraffe Ring, $175 at shopbop.com, Helen Ficalora Hamsa Charm, $45 at shopbop.com: I wish I was French.  Or had the innate ability to take normal things and make them look incredibly chic like a French girl does.  Forget about wearing headscarves, who thinks of tying their scarf into a hair bow and then executes it properly?  That's the sort of thing that I think about in front of the mirror and then totally fail at actually making.  You guys know my obsession with tiny animal jewelry.  Let's add this giraffe ring to that list.  It almost looks faintly evil, which makes me like it even more.  I have a thing for hamsa charms, but when they're gigantic they can look a little awkward and intense.  Which is why this miniature silver version is so perfect!  It's absolutely precious, and actually affordable.

J. Crew Featherweight Cotton Lynx Bling-button Cardigan, $88 at jcrew.com, J. Crew 3" Chino Short, $39.50 at jcrew.com, CC Skye Make Love, Not War Bullet Necklace, $125 at shopbop.com: Two more things on my summer must-haves list: a leopard cardigan and khaki, structured shorts.  This leopard cardi from J. Crew is picture perfect.  The print is in a fun, punchy orange (bright, nut not too bright), and it comes with blinged out buttons that will catch the summer sun beautifully.  You guys know that I'm a huge fan of J. Crew's chino shorts.  They're the ideal short, but not too short length, and they manage to be both basic and chicly tailored at the same time.  Last but not least, I really want a bullet necklace.  I know it sounds weird, but I've been stalking some old bullets re-purposed as pendants on Etsy forever, and this is a much more glam version.  It even says 'make love' on the side.  Too cute.

Inspirational Prettiness

So while I was trolling wedding blogs today (yes, you read that correctly), I stumbled across this blog, A Thing For, where all the blogger does is make adorable inspiration boards.  Like all the time, just inspiration boards.  THEY'RE SO PRETTY.  They mix fashion and nature and total randomness, and somehow manage to make perfect sense.

J. Crew Ladie's Companion Tote, $10 at jcrew.com: I am in love with these J. Crew totes.  They're totally affordable, pretty decently-sized, and have the cutest prints on them ever, all of which revolve around puppies and clothing and shopping, AKA three of my favorite things (if there were also ponies, I would be losing my mind).  These would be so great for groceries, sleepovers, text books, going to the beach, you name it.  And since they're only $10, you could afford to buy all of them!

Sea of Shoes: I love the pictures from Sea of Shoes.  Girl has skills.  There's just something so desolate and yet romantic about this shot.  The lighting is perfect, the mixture of fur and lace and silk is so unexpected, but so pitch-perfect, and I really want her hair.

Jak & Jil: The mix of textures here is genius, with the applique nature of the bag, and linear and studded bracelets.  Since the bracelets are so subtle against the statement nature of the clutch, it works without clashing.  And I really, really want that clutch.  It's the perfect size...le drool.

And now time for an installment of things Megan finds absolutely hideous:

Nightcap Clothing Flamingo Skirt, $264 at shopbop.com, Superfine Chase in Sweat Pants, $209 at shopbop.com: That skirt.  Hm.  Hmmm.  The clothing equivalent of a mullet?  Yes.  In a trippy wallpaper pattern?  Yes.  With awkward lace trim?  Yes.  For more than $250?  Yes.  Someone explain that to me.  And then there are the $200 drop crotch sweatpants.  $200 for sweats is bad enough, but $200 for sweats that also make you look anatomically incorrect?  No, thanks.

MAC Chromagraphic Pencils, $14.50 at maccosmetics.com: I have been looking for a good, off-white waterline eye liner for EVER.  It's hard to find a light, eye-safe pencil that's not bright white or yellow.  I know these look brownish, but swatched they're a really nice, pale beige that's basically skin-toned and would be a really great way to wake up your eyes in the morning.

Army Brat

I'm alive!!!  Watching the Madonna episode of Glee made it all better (even if you don't watch Glee, you need to watch the Madonna episode.  Just do it).  Anyways, I've got a whole bunch of randomness to share with you guys today.

MAC Superglass Collection, drops May 6th: lip glosses in order: Cherry Electric, Disco Blend, Fab Frenzy, Gift Wrap, Sugar Overload, Superflash!, Sweet Tart, Totally Bang!, Tunnel of Love.  I like how MAC keeps building off their own lip gloss accomplishments, first the Dazzleglasses, then the Dazzleglass Cremes, now the Superglasses, which I gather are insane levels of sparkly and pigmented.  My vote's for Gift Wrap, Sugar Overload, Sweet Tart, and Totally Bang!.

The MAC Pret a Papier collection just came out a few days ago, and aside from a totally covetable bronze nail polish, there's not much I thought I wanted from it.  And then I saw Tissue Weight eyeshadow.  It's the shadow on the left and the left swatch (the shadow on the right in both pics is Hey, which also just came out a few weeks ago).  Tissue Weight is a light, pink-based champagne with gold shimmer that seems like it would make the best lid color ever.  I'm really feeling warm colors on the eye right now as a way to make my hazel eyes pop (this coming from a girl whose warmest shadow is dark purple).  It's $14.50 on the MAC website.

Fresh Bath & Shower Gels in: Citron de Vigne, $18.50 at fresh.com, Sugar Lemon, $18.50 at fresh.com, Fig Apricot, $18.50 at fresh.com: Fresh just dropped the price of their shower gels $10 a bottle, since apparently they are doing really well and want to share that happiness with all of us.  Aww.  Their body lotions also went down about $6 a bottle, I believe.  That said, these still aren't cheap, but they're a much more realistic indulgence now, and I've heard that this is a shower gel to beat all shower gels in terms of scent and lather.  Here are the scents I'd like to try: Sugar Lemon (classic Fresh, very sweet and innocent), Fig Apricot (that just sounds delicious), and Citron de Vigne, a sparkling citrus scent (perfect thing to wake you up in the morning).

I've been hearing a lot about the army trend for summer/fall, and while I totally love the idea of it, sometimes I wonder how well it's going to translate into reality.  Take this Garance Dore pic for example.  Love the look on the right, not at all convinced about the wearability of the look on the left.

Here's my attempt to make take this look from runway to realway.

Joe's Jeans THE SHIRT Relax Fit Shirt, $98 at shopbop.com, Current/Elliot The Army Pants, $162 at shopbop.com, Frye Joy Huarache Sandals, $198 at shopbop.com: These Current/Elliot pants are so perfect--slightly cargo-ish, in the perfect hue of military green, but the slim cut fit is totally sexy and modern.  I like them rolled up at the ankles with a pair of heels for a nice amount of contrast.  I'd pair the pants with this Joe's Jeans shirt.  The sheer white button-up has a definite safari vibe to it, which goes nicely with the military feel of the pants, and the loose silhouette up top will balance out the slimmer lines down below.  The white and olive color palette is very clean and military-inspired, but also really flattering.  I like these huarache sandals to make the look a little more casual and earthy.  The woven leather adds a craftsy touch, and the heels help keep all the fabric from overwhelming your frame.

Low Luv x Erin Wasson Steer Skull Pendant Necklace, $95 at shopbop.com, Rachel Leigh Greta Hinge Bracelet, $132 at shopbop.com, Rebecca Minkoff Python Passion Clutch, $295 at shopbop.com: Since the basic components of the look are so basic, you can have a lot of fun with the accessories.  I'd choose a basic pendant to add a bit of sparkle to the top, and so that it doesn't detract from the simple lines of the top.  I love the skull pendant; it offers a slightly dark to contrast to all the clean, military pieces.  The bracelet will add a bit more bling without being too distracting, and looks like an antique heirloom, which goes with the slightly retro vibe of the outfit really well.  The bag is where I'd really go crazy.  I like the python print because it's neutral, so it doesn't clash with the outfit, but since it's a fun pattern it jazzes up the outfit a lot.  The shoulder-strap clutch works nicely here because a giant bag would just totally overwhelm the lines of the shirt/pants, and the thin chain strap here will drape perfectly across the shirt without detracting from it.
