Shock and horror, she looks exactly the same! Or potentially even more like a zombie stripper than she did before. Before I sarcastically mock TMoms, I just want to say that I understand having a specific look that you wear every day that becomes a part of your persona. On a much, much more restrained scale, I like to do my cat-eye gel liner every day because 1. I think it works for my eye shape and 2. I have a very hourglassy body type that looks best in '50s style dresses, so I like to do a little '50s style makeup. So I understand where you're coming from, TMoms. I just think you've taken it a lil too far.
We get it. You were all cute in How the Grinch Stole Christmas but now you want to be all grown-up and badass and rebellious. Fine. Totally deserved. But does having hair that looks like it was ripped off the head of a life sized mermaid Barbie doll and then made into a wig used by an extra in Flash Dance really accomplish that? Or does it say "I am legitimately insane and these mangy extensions are eating into my brain?" As for picture #2, I'm sorry, but thigh-high pleather boots, a bra, and a button-down are not an outfit unless you are Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. TMoms, I'm sorry, but you are no Julia Roberts.
It gets even better. Why not pair a cheap, Victoria's Secret bustier with a crucifix, thigh-highs, and some sort of odd leg harness? Perhaps because it makes you look like a futuristic brothel girl who has a Single White Female fixation on Madonna? Just perhaps. Also, the "I f*** for Satan shirt?" Really? We get it. You're super badass. This is just tasteless. Which one of your parents saw you wear this before you left the house and went, "yes. I am okay with my daughter wearing this because she looks like a classy young lady with stand-up moral values." Also, leather granny panties? Where do you even buy those???
You know what would be super rebellious for her at this point? Taking out the extensions, scraping off the eyeliner, and doing a simple, clean Jason Wu-esque outfit, not even super girly but just something uncomplicated and fresh. Now that would be truly shocking.

Loving the Look: Leighton Meester
Here's Leighton Meester at an Herbal Essences event (it still surprises me that of all the Gossip Girl actresses they didn't pick Blake Lively. Girl has HAIR). Her hair looks suitably fabulous, I'm loving the soft smokey eye, but what I really want to talk about is her Versus dress.
HOW ADORABLE IS IT?! The bodice is modest, but in an interesting and fresh way, the mixture of textures keeps the black from feeling staid, and the kicky short skirt gives it all a young and fun twist. I'm even willing to forgive the shoes, as long as that dress makes its way into my closet while I'm sleeping tonight.

Halloween Costume: Blair Waldorf
I like Halloween. I really love Halloween costumes. One, they're an excuse to be ridiculous, and two, they're an excuse for me to buy new clothes. It's a win-win! I know this costume idea isn't the freshest one, but it's still really fun. I'm thinking Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl: preppy, Upper East Side ice queen.
This is classic Blair Waldorf. I decided not to do a headband for this because Blair has actually grown out of the headbands (crazy, I know), but her basic style remains the same.
J. Crew Lisette Lace Shell, $98 at jcrew.com, See by Chloe Bow-embellished Flared Skirt, $295 at net-a-porter.com: She does a lot of a-line skirts and embellished tops, generally in combination with bows and lace and some sort of jewel tone. And here we have all three! The a-line skirt is very flattering, the bow is very schoolgirl Blair, and this is definitely something you could wear again (say with a plain white tank and a little leather jacket?). The shell is nice and streamlined against the volume of the skirt, the high-neck is classic Blair, and the two jewel tones play off of each other perfectly.
J. Crew Jenna's Cardigan, $70 at jcrew.com, J. Crew Bow and Chain Ballet Flats, $168 at jcrew.com: I had to do a cardigan. She's just such a cardigan person. This one is nice and fitted, and cropped so that it will hit just at the waist of the skirt. The dark grey doesn't compete with the jewel tones of the rest of the outfit, and the ribbed waist gives it a bit of a retro, Audrey Hepburn vibe (very appropriate). Now, with Blair and shoes you can do either heels or ballet flats. I'm tall and clumsy, so I'd go for ballet flats. These are just very simple and girly, the color ties in with the cardigan, and the bows are very, very UES.
I did this with higher end pieces because Blair wears very high end pieces and because I'd totally use this outfit as an excuse to go shopping. However, you could definitely replicate this ensemble with pieces from Forever21 or H&M for much less--the basic ideas are the same.

Gossip Girl Sneak Peak
I don't know if y'all have noticed, but I'm a big Gossip Girl fan. Yes, I recognize that it might not be the best quality show on TV (ahem), but the clothes! Oh, the clothes. I recently got tipped off as to one of Serena's looks from next Monday's episodes (no spoilers, I promise), and I thought I'd share it with you guys.
Here she is wearing a Porter Grey scarab printed tank from their Fall 2010 collection. This is awesome for two reasons: one, I love Porter Grey. They spell grey the same way I do (the pretty way!), and two, I really like this shirt. The scarab print is a little offbeat and reminds me of The Mummy, in a good way, and then the zipper interjects a modern edge. Do want. But can we just talk about Blake Lively's hair here? I'm really loving the ombre blond she has going on. If only there was a way for me to achieve this with my drugstore brown hair dye...hm....may need to experiment with this. I'll let you know how that goes.
But, of course there couldn't be such a covered up Serena ensemble without something like this in the same episode.
She looks like a domintrax ninja's version of business casual.

Gossip Girl Fashion Sneek Peak
Alright y'all, I don't know the context of these two looks or when they'll be airing, but I do know the designers. Leighton Meester is wearing Ralph Lauren and Blake Lively is in Zuhair Murad.
I'm not a huge fan of the Ralph Lauren look. It doesn't seem very flattering, and the baby blue is killing me. The Zuhair Murad look, on the other hand, is fab. I love the play on sheerness, but purple-grey hue, and how it manages to be both dramatic and formal, and yet very sexy.

Sparkly Nail Polish and Tiaras (Barbie Would Be Proud)
I've officially been to four different froyo places in the last week! Four! I feel like this must be a California thing. We're starting to have more froyo places than Starbucks, which I have mixed feelings about. Then again, when it's ONE HUNDRED DEGREES outside, like it was today, maybe froyo's not such a bad thing, huh? Anywho, on to the actual semi-relevant stuff.
Clemence Poesy and Ed Westwick: Clemence Poesy and Gossip Girl seems like a seriously winning combination. I don't really understand why she'd want to be on Gossip Girl, but she's so fab and chic that I'm not gonna question it. I think she brings a breath of fresh air to a show whose starring characters are sequins, leather, sequins, Blake Lively's legs, and Blake Lively's cleavage. That trench is so Parisian chic, and I love how simple her outfit is. I'm just confused as to why Chuck Bass is masquerading as an extra from Newsies. I mean, really, what's going on there?
Lauren Conrad and Stephanie Pratt: The Hills is finally over! FINALLY. Don't get me wrong, I liked the first few seasons, but it went downhill with Heidi's plastic surgery. I give Lauren Conrad props for getting off the show when she could. Just look at the difference between her and Stephanie Pratt. Lauren is all smiles and secret "I'm a genius for getting my life back and still making money", whereas Stephanie is all awkward tan and painfully straight hair and generic bandage dress. Who looks happier here? Also, LC's dress is kind of fab, no?
Marion Cotillard: I feel like Marion Cotillard being gorgeous is kind of standard. It seems like she wakes up glowing, for crying out loud. I'm particularly feeling this eye makeup look. It seems like she has a rosey, shimmery base across the lid, with black liner on the lash and water lines, and a hint of navy smudged into the lash line. I think it's the combo of the warm, shimmery base that's really girly, and the slightly edgier liner that really makes it work. I'm definitely trying this out tomorrow.
MAC Nail Trend for Fall 2010: This MAC nail polish collection looks AWESOME. The colors are Earthly Harmony, muted taupe with copper shimmer, Imperial Flower, bright reddish orange with orange and red shimmer, Ming Blue, cobalt blue with gold and red shimmer, Jade Dragon, emerald green with teal shimmer, Concubine, blackened red with red shimmer, and Rain of Flowers, blackened violet with violet shimmer. Ming Blue, Jade Dragon, and Earthly Harmony are fun, but so similar to stuff I already own. But Imperial Flower, Concubine, and Rain of Flowers are gorgeous. Concubine looks like a fun, edgy polish that's a refreshing alternative from a slightly ugly greige or a typical vampy color. There's something a little off about it that makes it really intriguing. Rain of Flowers is such a gorgeous, deep purple, and I love that it's still vibrant and has a good amount of shimmer to keep it from being a flat, dark purple. Concubine is my favorite. I mean, one, it's called Concubine. Hello there. Two, it's a really interesting color that's both girly and a little rock and roll, and blackened red with red shimmer sounds to die for.
Alice + Olivia Decia Dress, $365 at net-a-porter.com, Rachel Gilbert Gown, $1,170 at net-a-porter.com, Louis Mariette Crystal Tiara, $345 at net-a-porter.com: This Alice + Olivia dress is so perfect for summer. It's a light chiffon, so it's breezy and easy to wear, and the cut manages to walk that line between sexy and too skimpy. I really like that it's a little asymmetrical, and is a bit Grecian but also a bit salsa dancing inspired. It's a fun new take on the summer white dress. The thing that kills me about Net-A-Porter is all the red carpet gowns for sale. So close, and yet so far. This gown is another example of that. The a-line chiffon skirt is crazy flattering, the pailette-encrusted bodice is edgy-glam at its best, and the cutouts at the bodice inject a handful of sex appeal and bondage-inspiration. That is one hot black gown, and that's not something I say often. Oh yeah, and that last thing? It's a tiara. They have tiaras for sale now. I have no idea what you'd wear a tiara too, but if I had money to burn I'd totally get one just to wear around the house. Wearing a tiara and...doing dishes. Wearing a tiara and...watching True Blood. Yep, sounds about right.

Redheads and Taylor Momsen. Again.
Sorry for the late post guys, but I literally worked 10 AM to 9 PM today. I wish that was an exaggeration. But I have the day off tomorrow to go see Eclipse (I appreciate high quality cinema, of course) and be a vegetable, so I'm def looking forward to that. Anyways, on to today's post.
Kristen Stewart, Clairol Perfect 10 Haircolor in Medium Golden Brown, $13.99 at drugstore.com: Kristen Stewart has red hair! In theory I dislike this idea, but in reality, it looks fab on her. Of course, for the last two years, every time I've looked at her I've had serious hair envy about her auburn-tinged locks, so this isn't a huge jump. I've even considered dying my hair red, but I went with the Medium Golden Brown for summer. Lightening it up one shade from normal. I dream big, I know. But the real reason I brought this up is that I've noticed that for every person who says I have brown hair, there's another who'll say I have red hair. I was even called a redhead and told my hair looked like henna. WTF, mate? The first time I heard this I was so, so confused. The box says golden brown. Not red. These people must be colorblind. My natural hair color has warm undertones, and so does this dye, but red? No way Jose. But then I realized...under fluorescent lighting, like in my bathroom, my hair flashes red. Very, very red. I've never seen this in pictures, so I'm thinking it's strictly an indoor lighting thing. I'm just trying to figure out where this came from. Does red pigment stay around and build up in hair while the brown fades out? Where is all the red coming from?! Ack. It actually doesn't bother me because I considered dying it red, so I kind of like it. But have y'all had this problem before? Hair being different colors under different lighting/changing over time? What's the deal?
Taylor Momsen: I realize that it probably seems like I spend of a lot time on this blog giving Taylor Momsen, um, 'constructive criticism.' But damn, she just keeps getting worse and worse. I have nothing against artists dressing up and showing skin to make a creative statement. Lady Gaga eschewing pants? Bring it on. Rihanna and Beyonce opting for high concept bikinis in all their music videos? Why not. But the difference here is that Taylor is one, not a legal adult (AND SMOKING FOR CRYING OUT LOUD WHERE ARE HER PARENTS???), and two, making no statement other than she's a washed-up stripper from a Moulin Rouge cabaret with My Little Pony Extensions. Girl does not look 16 (more like 32), she resembles the offspring of a panda and a Barbie with a bad haircut than an actual person, and she is not wearing real person clothing. That corset dress leaves nothing to the imagination, and to top that off she's add thigh highs, garters, black underwear, and Lucite stripper heels with tip jar platforms. There's a point where being ironic just becomes sad. She doesn't look sexy or chic or pulled together in any way. She looks like a hot mess that desperately needs to have a heart to heart with her mother and her hairdresser.

Lanvin Fall/Winter 2010: Bottega Veneta, Chanel, and Lanvin always get my highest marks for best executed, most creative campaigns, especially Lanvin. I haven't disliked a Lanvin ad since this one, which is still on my wall and still gets me. I'm really liking the newest Lanvin ads. They aren't as high concept, but they are impeccably styled, and it looks like the panda liner is here to stay. I really like how he's put these ornate, very glam clothes in such a stark environment. It sounds jarring, but really puts the focus on the clothes instead of whatever else is going on.
Laura Baillie Designs: Key Pendant Charm Necklace, $18 at etsy.com, Double Guns and Heart Necklace, $18 at etsy.com, Hamsa Charm Necklace, $18 at etsy.com: Y'all know that I love discovering new Etsy stores. For those of you that are confused as to why I seem to prefer Etsy for certain types of items instead of eBay, I'd explain the difference between the two as such: eBay is great for reselling vintage, selling off stuff you have in your closet, consignment, etc. Etsy is better for more custom stuff, or for smaller artisans selling their wares in a cohesive way. If you wanted to find a homegrown jewelry designer, I'd recommend Etsy. Here's my newest fave jewelry designer, who has a TON of adorable pendant necklaces for $18. You can get a whole lot of chic for less than $20, and international shipping is just $4 (since she lives in Scotland...). This little key necklace is a fab alternative to the Tiffany keys, the gun necklace reminds me of a Western take on Romeo & Juliet, and I have a serious soft spot for a hamsa necklace, which is a protective symbol from Middle Eastern religions.
Tuleste Market Flower Bracelet, $95 at shopbop.com: I wanted to end this post on a cute note, and how cute is this tuleste market bracelet? I mean, really now. The band looks like it belongs to a plain Jane retro watch, but then you have that giant, exuberant flower on top, and the lovely pop of contrast from the glass pearl. It's at once retro, boho, organic, and crazy chic. How could you wear that around all day without smiling? It's like an instant mood brightener.

Madewell and...Taylor Momsen
Ok. So I know that I critique (AKA mock) Taylor Momsen a lot, but up til now, her main offenses have been wearing too much eyeshadow and pretending to be Courtney Love. But this...this takes everything to a whole new level.
Problem #1. She looks like a panda, and those extensions wouldn't fool a blind person.. They're beyond the point where they look fake but everyone gives her the benefit of the doubt. I feel like if you took those extensions out, they would stand up and walk away (in shame) by themselves. She reminds me of Ursula from the Little Mermaid. Ack.
Karla Sugar posted these fab swatches of all the MUFE Aqua Cream Shadows/Blushes/Lip tints/whatever they are. Aren't they gorgeous and CRAZY pigmented? I want 2 (mmm taupe), 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16. I really like that they're come out with a good formula AND included a great range of colors and finishes. I hate it when a great new shadow or lip gloss comes out and the color range starts out sooo limited.
And now for something completely awesone: there's gonna be a MAC for Rodarte collection!!!! It comes out in September. You can read about the deets at the link above, but here's what I'm really looking forward to: Sleepless Lip Glass (light grey taupe--could be awesome or terrible), Nail Lacquers in Juarez (bright opal pink) and Factory (light opal mint), Beauty Powder in Softly Drifting (pale neutral white-ish pink with soft gold pearl), and Badlands pigment (mid-tone shimmer beige brown). I like how off-beat and almost weird this collection seems, like they didn't water-down the Rodarte aesthetic to make it more wearable.
All Madewell: Chiffon-Ruffle Tank, $48 at madewell.com, Moto Sweatshirt Jacket, $78 at madewell.com, Denim Midi Shorts, $59 at madewell.com: Madewell just launched an e-commerce site (woohoo), so of course I had to go through all of it and pick my favorite things, and then stop myself from buying them. Ahem. Anyways, I love this chiffon-trimmed tank. It has a little bit of a tuxedo meets bib necklace feel, but with all the ease and slimness of a tank top. I think I've posted like 10 different sweaters that look like motorcycle jackets, but I have a real moto jacket and a sweater version, and I have to say, I wear the sweater version more. It's just so cozy! I really like denim shorts for summer, but I'm not a huge fan of Daisy Dukes. At all. I'm always trying to find other silhouettes that have a similarly summery feel. These boyfriend-ish shorts are fab. They're still short, so they show off a summer-time amount of leg, but the slightly baggier leg is a lot more flattering than a pair of micro-shorts, and probably a lot comfier.
Wanderlust Sumatra Shirtdress, $88 at madewell.com, Bensimon Vintage Lace-up Sneakers, $65 at madewell.com, Slouchy Sweatshorts, $48 at madewell.com: Menswearish shirtdresses are my absolute favorite swimsuit cover-ups. They're offbeat and a little more sexy than your average sundress, and transition off the beach nicely. I like this incarnation because it's longer than a regular shirt and slightly slimmer without compromising that borrowed-from-the-boys effect. I am not a sneakers girl. I wear tennis shoes only to work out, and I detest (sorry y'all) Converse with every fiber of my being. At the same time, there are occasions when I really need some sort of cute sneaker. These Bensimon sneakers have an adorable retro French girl vibe, they don't like like your average sneaker, and they come in chic colors. Win-win. A few months ago, Garance Dore posted some really cute sweat-shorts that she made, but since I couldn't find a buyable version, I forgot about them entirely. Well. These shorts have that same designer sweat pants vibe, but they're summertime appropriate, affordable, comfy, and super chic in a very Alexander Wang sort of way. For less than $50. Sign me up!

Ack.
Problem #2: So. Um. Can we discuss this? She's wearing a lace bra, garters/thigh highs, granny panties, and a tank top. If I walked out of the house like that, my parents would murder me. Literally. If she was going for something a la Lady Gaga, and being really creative/making an artistic statement and not SIXTEEN, I'd let that amount of public nudity slide, but she's SIXTEEN and pretending to be a stripper pretending to be Courtney Love 20 years ago. Oy vey. I feel like working on Gossip Girl should help her with fashion.
If You Like Pina Coladas...
I know I keep harping on the summer thing, but really, it's almost summer! I'm so happy. Except for the part about how I don't have a job yet, but I'm thinking not to think about that lalalalalalalala not thinking about it. Anyways. I'm generally not a huge fan of the strongly scented lotions/body products/candles, but for some reason when summer rolls around, I'm all about them. Right now I'm really craving tropical moisturizers and shower gels--I love to layer the scents on top of each other and other perfume.
But first, here's an adorable video of Zac Posen with his Target collection. Now I just want everything even more, which isn't helping at all.
American Eagle for Payless Regis Huarache Sandal, $22.99 at payless.com, American Eagle Huarache Sandals, $29.50 at ae.com, Frye Jacey Sandal, $148 at zappos.com: On another random note, I'm really feeling huaraches for summer. I basically live in some sort of sandal for the entire summer, but flips flops can be boring and gladiators are really played out. I think huaraches are a fun, interesting alternative. They look unique, but familiar in a boho, world-traveler sort of way, and have an amazingly earthy vibe that would work so well with ethereal summer clothing. Huaraches come in a variety of shapes, colors, and prices. These AE for Payless huaraches are so affordable that it doesn't even matter if they aren't well made, and these AE huaraches come in a really fun range of colors. I love the depth of this ruby hue, which would pop perfectly against a sundress. If you're looking for a sturdier pair, I'd go for these Frye huaraches. Since they're Frye, you know they'll be well-made, and again, they come in a lot of different, natural colors.
Illume Retro Tin Candles in Pineapple Cilantro, $20 at illumecandles.com, and in Sweet Rhubarb, $ at illumecandles.com: I'm not actually allowed to burn candles in my room, which I normally wouldn't listen to but some kid across campus burned out a couple rooms about a month ago, and the entire floor flooded from the fire sprinklers, and I really like all my stuff. So what I do is buy candles and then take the tops off and leave them open. The smell permeates the room, albeit less strongly than it would if the candles were burning, but still. I really like these Illume candles because the tins are so adorable that they'd actually add to the decor of your room. They have a sweet, slightly retro feel that just makes me want to line entire shelves with them. And then, on top of that, they come in the most amazing scents. Pineapple Cilantro? Yes please. That's the perfect combination of tropical and herbal, sweet and green. Sweet Rhubarb? Tangy and delicious. I think the only downside to these might be that they'd make me hungry ALL THE TIME.
Bath and Body Works Coconut Lime Verbena: Body Scrub, $15 for 10.5 oz at bathandbodyworks.com, Shower Gel, $10.50 at bathandbodyworks.com, Body Butter, $15 at bathandbodyworks.com: So when my mom and I went to NYC for spring break, the hotel we stayed at had all Bath and Body works products in Coconut Lime Verbana in the bathroom. Love. Housekeeping forgot to clean our room two or three days in a room, and we finally called them about it, so every day after that we got extra baggies of these Bath and Body Works products as compensation, I guess. I'm not complaining, I'm still using them! This scent is one of those that I absolutely loved in high school, and then totally forgot about. For some reason, it reminds me of Diet Coke with Lime (love). The scent lingers for hours, and the creamy coconut is perfectly balanced by the citrusy verbana and the tangy lime. It's basically the ideal summer scent that's not too sweet, not too cloying, and not at all generic or cliched. Look at how giant that tub of body scrub is! That's an amazing deal. Their shower gel lathers really nicely, and their body butter is the best solution to abused feet or chicken-scratch elbows. Plus, they have a buy-2-get-1-free or buy-three-get-2-free deal going on right now. I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting on that (I think it applies to most of their scents, too!).
Victoria's Secret Sheer Fragrance Mists in Island Escape, $12 for 8.4 oz at victoriassecret.com, and Good Day Sunshine, $12 for 8.4 oz at victoriassecret.com: I'll be honest, I'm generally not a body mist type of gal at all, but sometimes I just can't bring myself to wear my usual heavy perfumes during the summer. I find myself consistently wishing for something lighter and fresher. Victoria's Secret is always reliable for body mists, and they just came out with a new line of mists that actually sounds really nice! No annoyingly fruity or overly floral scents here, just well-blended prettiness. Island Escape has notes of ocean air, coconut, and sugarcane--very simple and straightforward, but it sounds like it has a lot of potential, and I love a good beachy scent in the summer. Good Day Sunshine has notes of bright peach and blue freesia, which certainly sounds like sunshine to me. Ever since D&G's Le Imperatrice, I've reconsidered peach as a potential fragrance. I think I like it. Next time I'm in Victoria's Secret I'll try a few of these out and let you guys know what I think.

I'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that Taylor Momsen is 16. As in not even a legal adult, probably doesn't have a driver's license yet. And somehow she already looks like a prostitute dressing up as Courtney Love for Halloween. I think even Courtney would be ashamed. I just want her parents to step in and be like, "honey, we understand that you want to express yourself, but maybe pretending to be a raccoon wearing Britney's old extensions and a back-up costume from Moulin Rouge isn't the best way to do it."
